What to Expect on a First Visit

It can be an intense experience sharing all that goes in to our relationship with food, our bodies, and our health and long-term goals.

Here, I’ll try to share a bit about what to expect on a first visit. When you make an appointment, you’ll receive a New Patient Information packet. Reviewing and completing these documents will help reduce the housekeeping and logistical details, saving more time to dig into the reason you’re here.

First visit documents include:
- Privacy policy & consent for treatment

- New Patient Profile

- Collaboration form granting permission to reach out and coordinate with your treatment team, including physicians, specialists, therapists, and past treatment centers (Note: for eating disorder treatment, it is the policy at Meg Salvia Nutrition to require a therapist as part of the treatment team.)

- Insurance and Financial Agreement
Insurance accepted includes:
- Blue Cross/Blue Shield of MA
- Tufts Health Plan
- Harvard Pilgrim Health Care
- Allways
- Cigna
- Aetna
- United

If you have questions about insurance coverage or how the details of your individual plan apply to nutrition counseling, our billing assistant can help look in to this and clarify details. I urge folks to reach out to him (his name is Brian) ahead of your first appointment.

Some of the questions on the New Patient Profile might be difficult to complete entirely. The goal here is to collect a few details without being overwhelmingly long. If any question is difficult to answer for any reason, feel free to leave it blank. Difficult topics or context can be explored in person at a pace that feels helpful and appropriate.
